It is recommended by the Institute of Electricians that any electrical wiring or installations be inspected and tested by a qualified electrician to comply with Health and Safety Regulations (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and Provision and the Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998). Wiring deteriorates over time and an Electrical Installation Condition Report will identify any faults so they can be rectified so no harm can come to colleagues, customers or the general public.

It sounds daunting and even worse, your insurance could be invalid without an EICR The aim of the Electrical Installation Condition Report is to review all electrical fixed wire installation in its environment and make sure that there is no risk of injury. Vic Lockley Electrical will not go looking for problems, but simply complete the report to highlight to you any risks.

• What An Inspection Covers
  An inspection will confirm that electrical equipment and circuits are working properly, identify any risks of electrical shock, faulty work or lack of proper earthing and bonding. After the inspection you will be provided with a condition report and advice about any remedial work that is needed.

• When Inspections Are Needed
  Checks should be carried at least every ten years for domestic properties and every three to five years for commercial and industrial premises. Inspections should also be completed when a property is to be let or sold. Increasingly, insurers now ask for regular inspection and testing.
• Additional Inspections
  A certificate will also be needed for any new installations or changes to installations. All your appliances also need to be regularly checked because it isn’t always possible to tell that they are operating safely with a visual check. This is called portable appliance testing (PAT).

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is an in-depth inspection and test of the existing electrical installation and is reported on a form that complies with the current wiring regulations, BS7671:2008 as amended in 2011. The first part of the inspection is to visually inspect all the accessible electrical accessories like socket outlets, switches, etc. 10% of these items will be inspected internally by opening them up to expose the wiring and terminals to establish if there is anything to suggest poor installation or quality of wiring. All electrical equipment is then inspected for the presence of bonding conductors, the correct type and location of switchgear and that the installation is being used correctly.

Once the inspection phase has been completed, a detailed test of each circuit is carried out to determine that the safety measures that have been put in place will operate correctly if an electrical fault ever occurs. This includes determining that the earth fault path is effective enough to result in automatic disconnection of the electric supply in the event of a fault, that the wiring is in good condition and that the residual current device (RCD) operates quickly enough to avoid any danger to colleagues, customers and members of the public.

Electrical Installation Condition Report is the answer!

Once we’ve completed the inspection and testing of all the above, you’ll get a Electrical Installation Condition Report. Our report will identify any deficiencies in your electrical set-up against the national safety standard for electrical installations. This report can then be used to confirm you have complied with all regulations and it can be kept for any Health and Safety audits.
